Cells are the basic building blocks of Excel sheets. It is a space where you will enter information or in other words content. In order to calculate, analyze and organize data you need to learn the basics of Cells and Cell Content. You can also define cell as an intersection of row and column or in simpler words where the rows and columns meet. The columns included in sheets are represented by letters like A,B and C and the rows are represented by numbers like 1,2,3 etc. Every cell has a unique cell address which is based o the position of columns and rows like a cell which is formed at the the intersection of column B and row 4 then its address will be B4. Whenever you select a cell its address will be displayed in the name box at the upper left corner of the interface plus the headings of row and column will be highlighted whenever the cell is selected. Remember you can select multiple cells simultaneously and the group of cells are called cell range. Now an address of cell range is take from the addresses of 1st and the last cells of the cell range. And they are separated by a colon. Selecting a Cell
In order to select a cell you need to follow these simple steps.
- 1st of all you need to click a cell and then select it.
- Once you click on the cell a border will appear all around the selected cell.
- The column headings and row headings will also be highlighted.
- Cells can also be selected by using arrow keys from your keyboard.
Selecting a Cell Range
in order to select a group of cells or cell range you need to follow these steps.
- 1st of all you need to click and drag the mouse until each cell you want to select has been highlighted.
- Once all the cells are covered you need to release the mouse so that the desired cells are selected.
